STEM Learning with Hot Wheels: Maker Camps Return!

In late December, Skyview Robotics students led a Hot Wheels Maker Camp for elementary age students in Southwest Washington at Fort Vancouver Regional Library.

Using Hot Wheels, campers questioned how many trials it would take to land a Hot Wheel car down a ramp and into a square tape box perfectly. This allowed for them to work on building their strength with the scientific process, going through each of the steps and editing till their desired outcome.

Starting with a hypothesis, assuming how many tests it would take, students would conduct their experiment by sending a Hot Wheels down a ramp and then record data. By observing their first result, they would take to editing their first ramp and continue the process until they achieve their final goal.

From this camp, students learned the basic elements of physics and the scientific method. Both the students and volunteers had an amazing time during this Maker Camp and can't wait to see more students at our Maker Camps this next winter!
